This 150 year old listed 'Konak' or fortified house has walls 1.5 metres thick at the base and the status of a "National Monument of Culture", the UK’s equivalent of a Grade I listed building, but without the UK’s complex restrictions and regulations. With this status, the owner does not pay the Bulgarian equivalent of council tax!!

The house was used by national communist party leaders as a weekend retreat and, sparing no expense, party funds were used to keep it in good structural condition.
